A golden ark, The Ark of the Covenant was made to house the tablets upon which were written the 10 commandments of God. When Moses died, Joshua was chosen to safe guard the ark and to cross the river Jordan with the people of Israel. Joshua sent spies into the city of Jericho where they met Rahab, who helped them and hid them from the city guards. The spies promised Rahab, that she and her family would be unharmed when they attacked the city. When those carrying the Ark of the Covenant stepped into the waters of the Jordan, the waters were cut off, allowing the Israelites to cross. As a reminder of this miracle, 12 stones, one for each tribe of the Israelites was taken from the river and placed upon the land.

The gates of the city were shut, but God commanded the Israelites to circle the city, carrying the ark for 6 days and on the seventh, they were to shout a battle cry. On the seventh day, when the great cry went out, the walls of Jericho fell, the city was captured and then it was set on fire. Seeing the might of the Israelites, the nearby citizens of Gibeon feared Joshua and planned an attack. Joshua commanded the heavens, Israel triumphed and there was never a day before or after that God obeyed the voice of man.
